Our last day in New Zealand

After leaving Wellington we head to the open seas.  Our last stop, well not really a stop, will be cruising the lovely Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound. A fiord(fjord) is defined as a long ,narrow, deep inlet of the sea with steep mountainous sides, originally eroded by glaciers. A sound is an islet or narrow channel of water such a s a strait.  In New Zealand, the fjords are  labeled Sounds even though Their geography lends  them more to the actually being Fjiords. Whatever name they are listed the word I would use is Magnificient!Due to high sea swells our morning was switched around and instead of Milford sound, the captain and Pilot decided to head to Doubtful sound first then return to Milford Sound later in the day.

The above pictures are from Milford Sound. It isn’t as long of a sound as Doubtful but just as magnificient. At the far end of the sound there is a small town that hosts services that might be needed by the nearly 550,00 to 1 million tourists who visit the sound each year! ‘While we were here, there were only a few small boats of the sound and perhaps one plane flying along it.  One of the beauties of sailing in a smaller ship as Neptune is that we could navigate the narrow opening and Tight canyon of the sound. There are two permanent waterfalls in the sound…

After a full day of sailing the Sounds we head back out to the Tasman Sea for another two sea days until we arrive in Hobart, Tasmania,Australia
