After an interesting day in Amsterdam viewing the Ann Frank museum, we have boarded a private cab to drive us to Rotterdam where we will meet our next ship the Viking Gefjon.
Our day in Amsterdam the only goal was to visit the Ann Frank Museum. The museum is built around the actual house and Susan had gotten up during the night a month ago to get tickets when the online ordering was opened. There is such a request for tickets that they sell won’t within minutes.
The outside of the museum. We weren’t sure if we were in the right place.. way too modern!
The neighborhood, beside those cars there was a canal. In fact, next to almost every street there is a canal!
The Ann Frank house was a very strong emotional event. There are no cameras allowed and visitors are limited in number so you have ample time to see, hear and experience the entire story of a family caught in the middle of horror. To live daily for two years in fear for your life is incomprehensible to me. The tour through the house is a self guided audio tour that includes pictures, artifacts, interviews with survivors. If you are not emotionally touched by the evil of humanity then there’s something seriously wrong with you.
The conviction to never let this happen again should be stronger in your heart after you leave. This little 14 year old girl (16 at death) was a terrifically good writer and who knows what the world lost with her death. Please grab the book and read if you have not…
We will return tomorrow to Amsterdam and hope to visit the Rijksmuseum to look at the paintings of the Dutch Masters. In the meantime, we are boarding a new ship and making new friends again for the next tour looking at windmills and tulips.
