We visit King George Island

Yesterday we had a medical emergency that required us to relocate 270+miles to King George Island. It’s quite a procedure to undertake. The airplane from Punta Areana will not leave until they are notified that the ship is already waiting or if the weather wont permit landing Or if its between 10pm -6am… So once we notified the authorities that we had arrived, it was decided to open up the bays and bring out the toys while we waited.  So at 9am in the morning, operations commenced to give us another experience. We were scheduled for a 9:15 zodiac cruise. Al wasn’t into it today so I ventured out alone.

It was cold and brisk. Our zodiac (the ZodiZach, named for the young specialist that was guiding us today)loaded up three of us and away we went!
Looking back towards the ship
Heading towards the coast

Some really great rock formations

A far away look at the Uruguay research station buildings

Interesting area with a few penguins

Looking closer I saw one guy!

We can really fly in the ZodiZach! We bounced across the bay!

The infamous Zach!

Chilean Navy ships docked here.
It was a fun trip, but the bouncing and hitting waves were tough on this old 74 year old body…by the time we came back to the ship, Im not sure Ill be able to get out of bed tomorrow!

The rest of the day we spent inside and played games, visited and watched the ice flow by us.  Im starting to miss seeing the colors of life… all it is here is white, gray, light gray, darker gray, blue, dark blue and shades of blue….. I’d like to see green or desert brown… thinking Im getting ready to be home.
