Tapas and Gaudi..Barcelona shows her stuff!

Sculpture at the Port of Barcelona

Today we visit Barcelona! Ive heard so much about the architecture for a long time and today I finally get to see it! None of the offered tours appealed to us so today we will use the Hop on Hop off buses to get a complete tour around the city and it something interests us we sill jump off for awhile.

Heading out of the port we immediately are greeted by interesting architectural buildings!

 Christopher Columbus monument!

Interesting old and new!
And a  ROY LICHTENSTEIN  right outside the Port!!!!!!

Wow this blew me away! Just throw modern art in with century old buildings…..Barcelona has it going on!

Even the graffiti seems to fit in!!!!
A sample of the city street lights, all with a chair bench built in at the bottom.

Those aren’t people on the balconies-sculptures

The showpiece of Barcelona:
The Sagrada Familia (pictures taken from the bus as the place was jam packed and you couldn’t move)
Plus Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen were inside looking so no one was admitted while they were there.

This is the ongoing work of the Cathedral built by Antoni Gaudi. It started in 1882. He died in 1924 but the work goes on.. in fact its not going to be done for decades more!

These are the towers that are finished. The inside is supposed to be just as impressive.

See what I mean about Barcelona? Just simply amazing.
Now it was time for a little Tapas and wine to revive us from all that beauty

Everything was tasty and good along with people watching too!
Heading back to the ship we continued to see something outstanding at every corner. I have to come back here again!

When we returned to the ship the skies opened up and the dark cloud rolled in with thunder and lightening. Perfect timing!! After the rain around 9pm this was the last thing we saw from Barcelona as we left port
