Panama Canal 2.0

A variety of pictures from our journey through the canal today.

On our World cruise in 2022/2023 one of the highlights for me was the travel through the canal. This time around the novelty wasn’t as great, but I noticed different things so it was worthwhile doing.  We docked in Panama City after the canal. Tomorrow we will explore Old Panama, Colonial Panama and new Panama.
I for got to mention yesterday, during our sea day, the Chief Engineer has a surprise for us! He invited a group of World cruisers to enter the engine control room. This was a BIG deal and every other ship has told us that it is not somewhere for passengers to see.

As always, we were welcomed with a glass of sparkling
Inside the office we saw where the chief engineers for each area work. The office is painted with Viking Red,of course.

Sundays the Chief Engineer makes pancakes for his staff on this desk
The Chief explaining what goes on with each of the screens we are looking at. Previously he gave us a talk with a video on just how the ship was built. He was on board with the project from day one when the ship was being planned. There is always a great sense of pride when he speaks about the Polaris and the Octantis.

Gauges concerning the engines and props

Fire control alarms

Various control centers.

Giving us a good background on things
Camera views of the engines and engine room

We were both excited to get to see this!

So far we have had invitations to private dinners, special concerts, dinner with the captain and General Manager, and lectures from the Chief Engineer…next up we are invited to visit the Captain on the Bridge next week.  Plus the gifts, flowers, clothing and we have learned that when we get to Antarctica, the World Cruisers will be the first to step on the ground for the season! It means we will get to experience Antarctica before there is anyone else on shore…. That is the best perk ever!!

  1. How very cool. Thanks for the picture of Chief. He became a friend and I have great memories of him. Seeing people I know helps me imagine I am there! You mentioned his pride about these ships. I noticed it too. They are his children!!
