When you’re tired of castles you visit Koblenz

As we ended our two hours of scenic sailing and the point where every castle was starting to look identical in style, we arrived at the port city of Koblenz. Originally we had signed up for an afternoon of wine tasting in the Moselle valley, but that was cancelled by the vender. Instead again I looked at the Atlas Obscura to find if there was anything of interest for Susan and I to see.  Al and Steve took a a couple of new friends up the city in a gondola and then on a walk around the flat part of the city.

The building looked abandoned but the eyes moved each second. It kept perfect time!

The video is 25 seconds and if you look close so the clock starts to chime the red tongue sticks out. It sure was fun to watch and realize this thing . It was built originally in the 18th century and rebuilt smaller but identical after it was destroyed in 1945.
After the excitement of finding our first treasure we gladly walked around trying to find the second. Along the way we found another courtyard with cobblestone streets, statues and a string trio playing classical tunes.

And lo and behold! Our little boy, the symbol of Koblenz, found on every manhole cover in town!

There was a puddle of water on the ground and it wasn’t long until we saw why
It was a great feeling to find everything on our list so we slowly headed our way back to the ship. Along the way we had worked up a thirst and since we were in wine country, we stopped at an outside caffe and had a lovely glass of wine.

All and All it was quite a successful visit to Koblenz! Only two more stops till we arrive in Amsterdam and change ships.
