Los Angeles…Part One of Three…A day of Immigration checks, two excursions and a Naming Ceremony!

I jumped awake at 5:30 am.The ship has stopped rocking and who would have guessed that that would awaken me? Perhaps I’m finally getting my sea legs. Today we are in Los Angeles for the day.  For the first time Al and I have separated and are taking independent tours.  Mine will be a leisure bus drive through the area looking at sights and His will be a walking tour of the downtown area.  My only real experience with LA has been to drive though it at 2am trying to beat the traffic. I actually know very little about the real city itself. Our adventures began early in the morning leaving the ship and heading through Border,Customs and immigration. Every passenger had to get off the ship and show our passports since we are returning into the USA.  300 of the current passengers are ending their trips and heading home while the recast of us will welcome aboard the new World Cruise passengers who will be with us for the next 120 days.  After a fairly quick trip through the customs line I headed to m bus for the tour.

Of course many of the buildings are used for movie backgrounds. My pictures are through the bus window so take that into consideration, please.

Union Station, also found in many movies

The Catholic Diocese here was beautiful but was severely damaged during one of the earthquakes in the 90’s and only just reopened. In the meantime, they built another huge church, very very modern and relocated all services there.

I didn’t realize how much beautiful architecture there was. The Art Deco was wonderful.

The famous Hollywood sign.. somewhat less impressive.
This is the Netflix building. Nice to know where all my subscription money goes!
Our only stop on the tour was at the Walk of Fame to see the stars and names of the “rich and famous”.

Where Jimmy Kimmel tapes his show

Grauman’s Chinese Theatre

The hotel from Pretty Woman.

My tour drove me around all the areas of the LA area: Hollywood, Beverly HIlls, Downtown, the studio lots…. And my biggest opinion was..Sunday is the day to visit.NO TRAFFIC! The architecture of the city deserves a closer look and I might try to return someday.  We returned to our ship and got ready for the surprise naming ceremony.
