The day we actually felt like explorers!

A left over picture from last night at dinner…Brown wing Albatross flying in a massive group fishing along the side of our ship. It was amazing and a precursor to the delights to follow ….view from our breakfast of the SOB’s heading to scout out positions for our adventure today. Special operations boats from the military fitted with seats for passengers views of the banks surrounding the glacier Pio XI

 Ready for adventure

The glacier Pio XI named after Pope Pius.. don’t know where the 11 is from
From the zodiac with our excursion scientist

Holding a piece of ice

Amazing

Ice from calving of the glacier

Looking at the ship from our zodiac
Heading back to the ship for lunch then out on the SOB for

Such an unbelievable experience. The pictures don’t do it justice!

Joel our pilot
After lunch we head out  into the Special Operations Boat. Yes, it’s a military fast boat that has been modified to take passengers aboard. Equipped with shocks on each seat and 850 horsepower motors.
The SOB goes fast so need to bundle up
The seats with individual shocks

We zip around by the glacier

We zip along the shore

Zipping back to ship after a brisk, speedy ride filled with speed,   donuts done by the pilot and all around fun!
It was all around a fun day outdoors! The scenery is so magnificent and unreal. I know my pictures don’t give you the full essence of the glaciers . I’ve only picked out a few of the thousands of pictures I couldn’t help take! When I get home, let’s hope I don’t bore you with the entire collection! This is just our first of many glaciers here in the Chilean Fjords! Tomorrow we will be at another spot where we can view more nature.
